Ashley Lemmons - Hangin Tough

It looks like Ash is one step closer to proving to everyone that she's a true champion. She may not win or place as high as she (and all of us) had wanted, but she's being a professional and a good sport by continuing to record videos from Chicago and by carrying herself with class. She's already placed high at this show, she already has a great sponsor, and she already has a loyal fanbase. So instead of wearing a pouty face and whining, she's upbeat and positive.

No one can win all the time, and even if you could, who in the world would relate to you? This is real life in the real world. These athletes go through many of the same hardships we do, except in their case - they go through them during twelve weeks of hard dieting and training. Ashley Lemmons may not win this show, but I hope she's earned your loyalty and respect. Fahrenheit Nutrition is very lucky to have her on their roster.

Ashley Lemmons - Figure's Best

I hope the judges are reading and keep an eye out for her; I hope RxMuscle.com & MuscularDevelopment.com, FlexOnline all plan to do interviews with her! She's Ashley Lemmons - Fahrenheit Nutrition sponsored - Figure Superstar, and if it's anyone's time to go pro, it's Ashley's!

The sport needs more role models. I can't tell you how many women have received exposure here, only to unfriend me on facebook or totally ignore my sites once they get a win or two nationally or go pro. The sport needs people that actually care - especially in the Women's Divisions! There are so many women trapped in abusive relationships, limited by their own cultural or personal insecurities, so many that never strive for anything better - much less to get on stage in front of their communities and present the product of hard work, dieting, and self-sacrifice.

I've given exposure to some ladies that I truthfully regret down the road, because they're not role models - unless you pay them - they won't talk to you. Unless you help them, they won't stick their neck out for you. It's not about being a sucker or being a doormat, but those that truly care and truly want to give back - don't seem to populate this cut-throat industry in droves. So I hope the judges pause when they come across the name Ashley Lemmons - and before they jot down her scores, I hope they take my words to heart.

Jamey & Ashley: My Favorites in Figure

"Hey Christian! Since Emerald Cup, I have been very busy. I just completed my first year of grad school in which I am working on a Masters in Exercise Physiology and I have been prepping for USA's. That is 8 weeks from now and I am planning on bringing everything I have to the stage :) I am still working with Pete and Apple of Construction Zone and proud to be one of their athletes. I am currently developing my website and busy networking, trying to gain sponsorships."

Jamey Peters

"I am currently 13 days out from NPC Jr. Nationals in Chicago, Illinois. Excited doesn't even begin to describe how I'm feeling. I feel super confident and satisfied with my physique at this point in my competitive career.

I started prepping at 16 weeks out, originally planning to compete at Jr. USA's in South Carolina until a slight curve ball was thrown. I decided waiting until Jr. Nationals was the best thing for me and my career and I couldn't be happier with that decision. Like I always say, go with your gut feeling.

I must say that this prep has probably been the most difficult of all, mentally and physically. There were days when I didn't know if I'd get through and felt like I had hit rock bottom. However, even if I fell down 100 times, I always got back up. As we get older, life gets that much harder but it makes you that much stronger. We fail, then we succeed. We fall, we rise. We break, then we put the pieces back together. That's what makes you strong, that's what makes you a champion.

I have to thank Fahrenheit Nutrition for everything they do for me and their never ending support. My family has also bent over backwards for me and encouraged me everyday. They are nothing short of an amazing and I feel so blessed and extremely thankful.

Editor's Notes

There is so much talent on FigureBikini.com, and many of the ladies I've featured and/or interviewed weren't even placing when I first contacted them, but you can almost tell. Jamey and Ashley have been placing well for a long time, but they're both extremely hard workers. One look at Jamey's abs or Ashley's overall balance and you just know that both of these women have spent a long time in cardio classes and/or on cardio machines of varying degrees of agony. There is a lot to be said about great genetics, but even the best of genetics just aren't enough - not at this level.

I am convinced that both of these women will go pro and do serious damage. If they were class winners and both at 100%, I would be in ABSOLUTE HELL if I had to choose a winner. I would rather get tased by a police officer with a Napoleon complex that have to compare these two for the win. Kudos to the judges! :)

Amusing Musings

Special Guest - Gary Udit

Coming Soon to FigureBikini.com!

Once I interviewed Allison Moyer, I had heard the name Gary Udit more times than I could remember so I decided to drop him a line and see if he'd be up for appearing on FigureBikini.com -- and he was/is!! Woo Hoo!!

I'm still not sure what I'll do with him. I was thinking of a feature, perhaps an interview, but I'm going to really plan something cool for him. I know many ladies would like to work with (as well as guys from my other sites). Keep in mind that just because the page is called FIGUREBIKINI.com - we promote all five women's divisions!

I'm leaning more towards an interview, but I'd love to have some guest questions. If you have a question you'd like Gary to answer, please drop me a line at Christian@StrengthAddicts.com. And kudos & thanks to Gary!!!!

Teams, Marketing, and You

I may not compete, yet; I may not write for bodybuilding magazine, and I may not have a radio show - yet. But I've been running bodybuilding sites, pages, and channels for over three years, and I know what it takes to create a viable forum, that people rely upon for quality entertainment. I've learnt that in order to reach a variety of people, you need to be incoporate a variety of mediums to get your message across. This is why StrengthAddicts.com has included so many interviews (with big names like John Romano and Aaron Singerman); it's why StrengthAddicts.com is offered in English & Spanish; it's why the StrengthAddicts.com Official Facebook page has over 8,000 likes worldwide - people in India and Pakistan may have a great degree of animus towards each other over religious and political differencs, but when they want bodybuilding StrengthAddicts' pages get a ton of hits from both countries (both in our Top 10 Worldwide!).

But you - the athlete - have to build yourself, much like I have built StrengthAddicts.com, and as of the last seven months - FigureBikini.com. I tell every single lady that appears on this page - from the novices to the advanced, you need a website, a facebook page, a twitter, a youtube, and you need to maintain these networks daily. Your facebook athlete's page (not your profile page) is like a little flower that you must water and care for, so that will grow to colorful and healthy. You tweets should mean something - they should have a little glimpse of you. If you think trivial is boring - then don't be trivial! Everyone eats six meals, but maybe you could prepare a meal on film, have a meal with the cameras rolling, chat with your fans on a pre-selected roster via Skype then record that session and upload to youtube. You could have a makeshit tv show this way, and the cost to you? $0.00

You want to get sponsored? You can work with a local site like StrengthAddicts/FigureBikni, nothing fancy, just a guy with a camera and a dream. You want free supplements, contest fees paid, maybe a hookup on a sweet suit for little next to nothing - I can help. But I'm one of many resources available to you.

Some girls want to join a team. Now if you want to join a professional outfit (e.g. Tanji Johnson's Save Fitness, Team Bombshell, Oddo's Angels, or Ingrid Romero's Team Edge), then I say do it. It might cost you $250-$1,000 + monthly dues, and you may have to attend camps and seminars, but it's worth its weight in gold. You'd be joining a real family where you could truly advance, with regard to getting knowledge to better you physique, as well as knowledge to be a better poser and representative of the sport (both for the Team, as well as for your own financial gain). I've never once had a bad experience with any of the major organizations; sometimes their girls are the best, and sometimes they can use some constructive criticism, but I've never had an issue with the top teams. In fact, Save Fitness (my personal favorite) has contacted me before, to thank me for the nice articles I've written about their athletes -- that 's classy.

So let's do a bit of recap. If you're an athlete, you HAVE to think about yourself. Whether you're going to do a show or two to kick off a personal training venture, or whether you plan on selling clothes, services, making money as competitive athlete, and/or going Hollywood or whatever - you need a plan. If you want to join a Team - join one where you are appreciated (not one where the pecking order has been set and you're just there to collect scraps - there's a lot of that in the smaller outfits). Make sure you have a presence on the web - you don't need a dot com, but you can at least register your name(dot)com for a whopping $6! Get a blog, a youtube channel, twitter, facebook, as many things with either your name or your business name in the url as possible. Remember that the net is much like the real (offline) world - the more consistency the better.

Whether you're on Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Youtube, or Flickr - if you add a forward slash and "StrengthAddicts," you're going to find us -- same goes for FigureBikini, and it's that consistency, coupled with daily activity and CONSTANTLY RELEASED new features and innovations that are the recipe for success. If you're on a budget, don't spend what you don't have a on a trainer, a team, or a cosmetologist - spend it on the one person that needs it - YOURSELF!

Work with people that want to work with you, that believe in you. Why would you ever want to join an organization where you're second best to the girl next to you? Why would you join a Team, while on a shoestring budget, and have to pay to be told who you could talk to and who you couldn't -- all the while "the Team" isn't working to get you a sponsor or put any kind of money in your pocket? What people need to understand, is that physique sports are a business to the supplement companies, the promoters, the federations, the spray tan people, the suit designers, it's a business to the press, it's a business for the sites, so why should you think of it as anything but that?

The old rule that amateurs can't make money until going pro is bunk. That year that Frank Zane had to forfeit his Universe title for selling booklets outside the show - that was 40yrs ago! Amateurs today land great deals with companies from Met-Rx to BSN. If you're the kind of person that's got the lights on but no one's home - keep paying and HOPING that someone, some altruistic someone will put together your career for you and when you're older, injured, or sick and can no longer compete or work - that the money will just get direct deposited into your account every month. Get real! Get to work!

Get Real

I recently released an article that discussed the potential politics associated with an athlete - any athlete - whose been on magazine covers and won local shows. My argument didn't rely on any specific situations or examples of politics, it merely noted that there was at least the likelihood of their being political factors when such a competitor competed against unknowns.

Jamey Peters
In a separate instance, I did discuss the local favorite to win, and I did cite the fact she was on the cover of the local exercise magazine and I did cite that she won a show in 2011. I praised her hard work in the gym, I recognized her good genetics, but I also made the point that I didn't think she was on the level of an Ashley Lemmons or Jamey Peters - two women that are nationally-ranked amateur stars in Figure, almost certain to earn IFBB Pro Cards.

More - Jamey Peters

The fact of the matter is I didn't comment on the subject's personality or any interactions we may or may not have had - I simply assessed her physique like I would any other man or woman on my sites; however, since she got word, two women on her Team have all but cut ties with me and one has said she does not want to appear on anymore videos. Why? Because I made a simple observation that one of their colleagues was dangerous at local shows, worked hard in the gym, had great genetics but as of now was stil not at the level of an Ashley Lemmons or Jamey Peters -- for that simple comparison I get al this fallout? Are you friggin serious right now?

Top Ranked NPC Figure Star, Ashley Lemmons
Fahrenheit Nutrition Athlete

Being compared to someone of the level of Ashley Lemmons is a big deal! You're talkin about a woman that's virtually guaranteed to go pro, and once at that level - she's likely to be a top contender at the Olympia (she's that friggin talented). I was totally stoked when Ashley landed her sponsorship with Fahrenheit Nutrition - a company I am also working with. This ad was run in the national press, primarily in Oxygen Magazine. It's great to win local shows and land covers on free, local-circulation magazines dropped off at the grocery store, but what's the big deal in conceding you're not YET in the big time but one day your time will come to? Why is a little humility so much to ask for? Ashley didn't wake up on day and expect all this - she paid her dues and she continues to do so.

This is why I shouldn't have even bothered covering Figure at the local level. I'll be rooting for a couple friends in the bodybuilding division, as well as a friend in Men's Physique, but I don't think I'll have much more to say on anything else at the 2012 NPC Lansing Grand Prix (March 31, 2012). I am used to working with girls from Team Bombshell, Tanji Johnson's Save Fitness, Ingrid Romero's Team Edge, I'm not used to having to walk on egg shells when it comes to analyzing physiques.

What kind of website would this be, would of any my pages be, if I couldn't critique physiques and accurately assess them? Why was I reported to Facebook? Why are people leaving my Site/Channel? If they want to leave - they can leave. Am I losing my champions? The women actually pushing the sport to the limit? NO. I'm losing my foothold in the Competiive World of LANSING, MI -- THE MECCA OF... UM...OF...LANSING!

FigureBikini.com is a site that's growing with connections throughout the industry, loyal friends that have gone out of their way to help make this humble little page into something really cool. Just who do you think you're going to silence? You think you're going silence FigureBikini.com or StrengthAddicts.com? You better think again. This isn't even free speech, this is just engaging in the sport! There was NOTHING malicious published, all that was stated was an honest, educated opinion between a good physique and a great one - not everyone is the best, and those of you that compete and those of us that celebrate your sacrifices - we all know that these divisions crown a select few AS THE BEST. But I digress; I've been so utterly redunant already, but I'm just PERPLEXED BY THE RIDICULOUSNESS OF THIS WHOLE ORDEAL.

If this isn't politics then I don't know what the heck is. Needless to say, I wish everyone luck and I think everyone that works hard is deserving for credit and coverage - but when you dominate a local show and rank over a dozen spots below the person you're compared to in a national class - yes you're not going to said to be as good. Ashley Lemmons nearly won the division, it's NOT an insult to say you're not yet at her level. I'm not saying you can never be there, I'm just saying you're no there yet. The fact someone would have such thin skin is utterly ridiculous. But what would be even more ridiculous would be for me to bow down to bullshit facebook complaints and lose all sense of objectivity. I owe my readers - HONESTY - and so long as I'm in the driver seat, I'm drivin with my eyes wide open.

So in recap, Get Real. Back to normally scheduled happiness and figure/bikini blogging tomorrow. In about ten hours we'll have an amazing feature with Kerri Baker!!!

In closing.... scroll down right below our good friend Tracey's photo on the right panel to a feature called "Webstat Motigo"....click on that little box. What you'll see is a map of the world, and then you'll see that map LIGHT UP. When I speak - I reach people. If I wasn't ALLOWED or if I wasn't ABLE to be HONEST... all the little heat impressions on that map would cease to light up as they so beautifully do every single day - from Lansing to Beijing to Cape Town to Syndey to Federal Way, WA.

I ask the Ladies -- for their Numbers!

I often find myself scrutinizing the diets, physiques, and contest preps of some of the most successful women in the physique sports - from bikini to bodybuilding, but it wasn't until recently that I started wondering what kinds of numbers these beautiful ladies of the gym were putting up. Do they train for strength? Do they train for endurance? There's so many unanswered questions when it comes to the different divisions. For example, did you know that some Bikini girls train like powerlifters? Did you know some Women's Bodybuilders actually opt for cables and ropes, as opposed dumbbells and barbells? It's true!

As usual, I went to the champions to get their feedback; I feel they are the #1 Authority on what works for women in getting into top shape for healthy living, as well as for the stage. Just remember that training, much like diet, supplementation, and rest -- requires consistency! You can't train like a powerlifter, meanwhile diet like a bodybuider - or can you? What are the limits, if any? And how hard should push yourself?!?!

For now, let's get some Numbers! Chest, Arms, Legs! Go!

"Right now, I'm trying to maintain my size in my legs. I tend to hold muscle very well in my legs and have to be careful that they're not over-powering my upper body. Currently, I'm comfortably squatting 115 x 12-15 reps for 3 sets. Deadlifts, 120-150 x 12 reps for 3 sets. Leg press, 495 x 12 reps with occasional drop sets. Like I said, I'm trying to maintain size yet still trying to bring up glute/ham area by focusing on the muscle squeeze during those particular exercises.

I usually don't bench press, like Miriam, I don't feel like I need to build up my chest. I stick to different push up variations and incline dumbbell press (20-25 lbs for 15 reps) when working chest."

Ashley Lemmons (featured on Video)
Fahrenheit Nutrition, Sponsored Athlete
Top Level NPC Figure Star

"My weight training program is based around Weilder's 5/3/1, which I love. I have made fantastic gains while running this program. I had to stop squats, deadlifts and military pressing last year due to several injuries (back and ribs), but I'm healthy again and finally back at it. Obviously, while running this program, I keep my reps very low...3-5 at the most. When I was at my strongest/healthiest, I was able to PR with Squats at 210x3, Deads (conventional) 225x3 and Military Presses (standing) for 100x3..I've only recently started working to increase my bench and have repped 105 for 3.

My numbers still arent back to my pre-injury level yet, but I am getting there and looking to keep progressing and making gains throughout my contest prep.

Nicole Gray
Champion Nutrion, Sponsored Athlete
IFPA Figure Pro

"I love lifting heavy and not being able to eek out even one more rep, going to failure is the key to muscle growth. I don't use conventional power lifts, like bench press and freebar squats, but I do variations of them on the same equipment. For example, I do dumbbell chest press instead of bench press, usually with 30s, for 4 sets of 15 reps. For legs, I do leg press with 3 plates/side for 5 sets of 12 reps. Dead lifts I don't go top heavy on because I have scoliosis, or a curved spine, I usually lift around 100lbs for 4 sets of 12 reps.

My workouts are usually rather long and detailed, incorporating many different exercises and short rest periods, so complete exhaustion on a single exercise would not work well in my program!"

Ruthie Harrison
Top Level NPC Bikini Star

"I always keep my rep range between 8-15 reps to help with my muscle growth. I deadlift 155 lbs for 8-10 reps , Leg press 500 lbs for 8-10 reps , Squat 155 for 10 reps, and shoulder press 30 lb dumbbells for 12 reps. Those are my main muscle building exercises that I lift as heavy as I can push myself. As far as bench pressing goes I usually don't go over 85lbs because I don't feel the need to really build up my chest muscles."

Intra Workout Nutrition

Let's face it - the fitness industry is literally flooded with pre-workout and post-training bars, shakes, meal tips, and/or macronutrient-loading strategies. But to take it one step further, most articles and studies are based on the Men - from physique to bodybuilding. This site, however, is exclusively about the ladies (from Bikini to Bodybuilding) and what works best for them.

In today's article I'm canvassing more than anything else. I want to know what companies are making the products that today's biggest stars are using. But in a future article, I'm going to delve deeper in the portions, the timing, effects on insulin and other hormone levels, as well as whether these supplements affect the duration or intensity of workout sessions. But again, today I go to the champions and ask them what intra-workout supplments and/or whole foods they're incorporating into their sessions.

Keep in mind that these women are regional and national level competitors, they [stage] veterans, and if you're a novice, you should take baby steps. Rome wasn't built overnight. Also, I encourage everyone reading this article to send in their supplement selections either via email ( Christian Duque or via Twitter).

"I use Fahrenheit Nutrition's 'Endurance' during my workouts. The melon flavor has to be my favorite! BCAA's are so important in my training. 'Endurance' allows me to train harder and speeds up my recovery for after heavy gym sessions. This is a staple in my supplement stack, especially during contest prep when I'm dieting down for a show & need that extra boost to get through those tough workouts. I usually drink between 25-35 oz. of water during workouts as well."

Ashley Lemmons
2011 NPC Nationals
Class D - Runner-Up

"I only drink water during my workouts. I drink approximately 1 gal. I use MET-Rx BCAA's before training and that gets me through my workouts. I feel amino acids are a vital supplement whether you take them before, during or after training."

Tiffany Reffner
NPC Competitor

"I recently discovered the huge impact a good pre-workout/energy drink has on my mental focus and physical ability in the gym. I have seen FAST fat loss since I started using ZipFizz energy drink mix in my water during cardio. Another plus is that it tastes so GOOD I actually want to do my cardio because I can't wait to drink it. Now that's definitely a good thing! ZipFizz contains no ephedra or other artificial stimulants, and has 30x the electrolytes of the leading sports drink! It is also very cost effective and easy to use. Check out their Facebook fan page: https://www.facebook.com/zipfizz.corp to sign up to win a month's supply free and to get coupons for $1 off! I am a sponsored ZipFizz athlete, so I can also attest to the great people at this company. They treat their athletes and customers very well and that's something I am proud to be a part of.

For a post-workout/recovery drink I use ALR's Chain'd Out for BCAAs. It has the ideal 2:1:1 ratio of BCAAs- Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine for muscle recovery and anti-catabolic effects. I have had a noticeable decrease in soreness when I take it; and again, taste is a huge factor for me so I continue to use this product because of it's superior taste. I never miss my post workout drink since starting to use Chained Out!

Ruthie Harrison
NPC Bikini Champion

"I use Champion Nutrition's Amino Shooter Core intra work out, daily. Whether weight training or even just cardio, I mix a packet in my bottle of water. I typically drink 30-40oz of water during a training session. Shooter Core contains essential amino acids that take only minutes to be absorbed and go to work. While I use it year-round, it's definitely a staple during prep when recovery is important while being in a caloric deficit."

Nicole Gray
IFPA Figure Pro

***As always, a huge thank you to the ladies that make this page possible, from the amazing champions that contribute awesome quotes, to the many behind the scenes that drop me encouraging emails and give me kudos. I love training and I love bodybuilding, and I started this page b/c the ladies that kill themselves in the gym - they deserve some credit too! They deserve an equal share.

NEWSFLASH - not just anyone can do bikini! Figure means muscle. Fitness means flexibility and hand/eye coordination, physique requires patience (as even the judges don't know what they're looking for), and bodybuilding... that requires control - no not mind/body, more like mouth. SO MANY HATERS out there, from the wannabe commical like Chick (sorry Bob) to the downright hateful (message board trolls). Point is, the Women work real hard - and here - we give 'em credit :)

[Ladies] Start Vlogging!

You know me... always naggin the stars to start blogging and vlogging - two easy, free, relatively simple, and highly effective methods to reach your fans - as well as get new ones - and - Market Yourselves!. This short, but entertaining vlog by NPC Teen Star, Miriam Looney, is a great way for you to get started.

Let's break down Miriam's video a bit. For starters, she's dressed in comfy clothes, she has a nice, well-lit background, and she seems genuinely interested in making the video. Remember, the more natural you are -- the better! Let's say you stutter here or there, or let's say you get a word wrong, SO WHAT? The last thing you want when it comes to vlogging, is to sound scripted. The fans see tons of photos, they read your features, they see you in the ads, but the vast majority have never met you - may never meet you. To see the stars in real-time, on video, that opens a whole dimension to the fan experience. When people see you smile, they hear about what you're up to, they'll begin to identify more with you.

Some Vlogging Ideas

*Shoot in the kichten! Perhaps you could make a nice breakfast, protein pancakes, protein shake (how YOU like it)
*A workout video - or - an intro video greeting from the gym.
Driving - just talking while you drive, some reflection(s) on your day.
*Supplement/Suit/Contest Reviews
*Advice and/or tips for ladies wishing to compete

You are all athletes, and many of you have insane physiques that will no doubt make any supplement line's day; however, you also have great personalities, like Miriam, and that you cannot capture in a photo or a magazine ad. I really hope, that only a few days into January, we'll see more of you blogging and vlogging.

Speaking of blogging, maks sure to check out Ashley Lemmon's brand new article "CURE THAT “HOLIDAY HANGOVER”

You Are What You Wear! (in a way)

Physique sports are expensive hobbies -- especially if you want to compete. In addition to gym memberships, clothing costs, and travel expenses, if you plan on getting on stage, you'll need posing trunks (if your a guy) or suits (if you're a woman). But before you go clicking onto the next blog, don't be too quick to dismiss the suit requirement.

If you were to Google-search suits for physique, figure, bikini, or bodybuilding, you'll find dozens, hundreds, if not thousands of sites throughout the world. And usually - or at least a good portion of the time - your perfect fit isn't out there. This is a love story, your perfect fit may not even be in existence. In many cases, you may have to find a suit-maker, exchange ideas and thoughts on specs, and then you may or may not have a suit that will truly show off that physique you've molded in the gym and developed through sound nutrition and supplementation. Why invest so much money into your training, supplements, the time off work, the airline tickets, the car rental, only to cut corners on your suit.

For the women, just like for the men, there's a job you do in the gym, there's a job you do in the kitchen, and there's a job you do in preparation for taking the stage (e.g. your suit, your tan, your posing routine, etc).

To make things easier, I've gone to the Champions for some insights. I hope you find their replies helpful. No one was paid or promised anything for these testimonials. This site is as DIY (do it yourself), underground, and REALLY (fan-based) as they come. These great athletes are grateful to their suit-designers and participated here - out of a sincere loyalty to these companies and out of a continued loyalty to you - THE FANS!

"My first competition suit I found on the website http://www.divaexchange.com, and I recommend every girl interested on competing check out the site before ordering a more expensive suit! I got a great TeenyB bikini suit there for only $100. It was the same style suit that Ali Rosen won Overall at NPC Nationals 2010 in!! DivaExchange.com also has Figure and Fitness suits and new suits are added almost daily! You can also sell your suits there.

For the more experienced and National or Pro level competitors there is no better choice than CJ's Elite Suits. CJ, or Cynthia James, custom makes every suit down to each stone. No one will have a suit like yours! Her suits can cost from a couple hundred to almost a thousand dollars depending on stone work and customization, but no matter the price you will LOVE your suit and it will be worth every penny! CJ is an amazing woman and cares so much about giving competitors the absolute best. She even let me borrow one of her suits at Nationals because mine wasn't going to work and I ended up getting second in my class! I couldn't have done it without CJ's gorgeous suit."

"My last 2 suits were designed by Caron Hospedales. She's been absolutely wonderful! Her suits are gorgeous & I have received nothing but positive feedback from the judges on both of them.

If you have an idea of what you want your suit to look like, Caron can make it happen. Typically a customized suit will range in price, depending on the amount of stones/detail that you want. She is located in New York and can be contacted on Facebook or at caronsuits@yahoo.com.

Ashley Lemmons

"I have had suits designed by Sylvia Tremblay, which fit like a glove and she was a blast to work with. Her attention to detail, beautiful stoning, and custom fit were amazing. Her prices vary, I was fortunate to buy a used suit that had never been worn. I received my suit on site, 10 weeks out from my show. http://tremblaydesigns.com.

I most recently used Cynthia James, and my exeperience was great. I received my suit 10 days out and the stoning, design, and color were wonderful. I did most of my order over the phone and they were extremely helpful and the fit was almost spot on. A great experience overall. Her prices vary depending on the stone work, which allows the athlete to fit a suit into their budget."

Jamey Peters

"I've had my suits made by Laura Richards with Suit Yourself out of Denver. She custom designs the suits herself.. She is very personable, flexible, and if your are not happy with something she strives to make sure you get the design and fit exactly how you want it! Shes very reasonable in her pricing..her suits vary from 100-800. She is quick in her turn around time, typically she can get a suit done within 3-4 weeks out of contest so there is plenty of time for any last minute alterations.

Shes on facebook under "Suit Yourself" or her number is 970-217-2428!

"I get my suits designed my Christine Marsh, her website is christinemarshdesigns.com or you can find her on Facebook.

Being a new competitor Christine has helped made my experience so much easier and less stressful. Her communication is key, making her suites come out flawless. Her suits are nothing but amazing!

"I've had all of my suits designed by Lidia Conti. She has custom designed and stoned each suit, with a fantastic fit and beautiful stone work. She was great to work with and asked my input as far as stoning, fabic, cut etc.. Each suit varied in price, which is one of the great things about Lidia, she has a suit/price that can fit anyone's budget. Typically I've receive my suit with in 3-4wks out which gives a little extra time to make any necessary alterations."

Nicole Gray

"My suits are custom made by Cynthia James (CJ) cynthia-james.com. She is an awesome person and her suits are the best I have seen. They are not cheap - about $600, but I've worn mine in my last 3 shows. I love it so much and have definitely gotten my money's worth."

Shelly Cannon

"My suits are custom made by Saleyla (www.saleyla.com).

She is local in Las Vegas and she custom designs and fits the suits specifically to your body. Her prices are very reasonable and the suits are always made within a week, I would definitely recommend her!"

Carolina Granados

"Happy New Year! Tamee Marie is the best for suits! Seems like everyone has used her, so she's not hard to find (she has a page somewhere on Facebook); customer service is great and her suits come in all price ranges (to rent or to buy); would definitely recommend :)

Keeping Commitments

I think a big part of being a successful part of the fitness industry, is keeping up with your commitments - whether it's paid work or something you've given your word to do (e.g. for the fans). This page, and pages like it, is by & for the fans, it's not a business. I take my all of my pages very seriously, I spend countless hours trying to make them better, I put the money, and I try to keep in touch with companies, which in case you haven't heard -- sign competitors to contracts.

If I had my druthers, I'd update this page daily, but I don't want to just talk and talk, so I seek out competitors that I feel have that certain look, that championship look. Whether they've won they won overall, had a class win, or whether they came at the back of their class or didn't place, none of that matters to me. If I have access to the photos (great job RxMuscle.com!) and the physique is there, I'm a fan.

I have been very blessed by true professionals like Ashley Lemmons, Nicole Gray, and Marilena EchoHawk - amongst others, but I have also been coming across more women that will make a commitment, reiterate that commitment, and then nothing, nada, zilch! I'll be told to wait a day, then two, and by day three I have nothing. The longer I wait, the older the title entry on FigureBikini.com gets, and with that... the more neglected my dearly beloved page appears. People don't routinely visit neglected, left-for-dead sites, would you?

Ashley, Allison, & Kyrstyn, ROCK NATIONALS!

"I'm ecstatic with 2nd place in a class with 40+ women in the largest show in NPC history! I'm only going to continue to improve and bring another great package to the next one!"

Ashley Lemmons 2nd Place, Class D

Physique sports aren't for everybody. They require a great deal of hard work when it comes to weight-training, a meticulous method for dieting, intense cardio that tests you on a daily basis; then you've got the suits, the tanning, the posing, the music - it's like it never ends. But unlike basketball, football, or any other sport conceivable, in Physique sports you have to stand out from everyone else, based on what the judges are looking for on that day. There is no hoop, no field goal, no home run, to speak of. It's a sport that isn't for everybody.

Ashley Lemmons has proven to the nation and to the world, that her coming of age is here, that she's poised to go pro and when it's time to do battle, she's going to emerge on top! At this very show - just one year ago - Ashley didn't place, but this year she not only did serious damage at Junior Nationals, but she comes back to this very show and takes second in her class! Next year she's going to go pro, and at this rate.. in a few years, one of her biggest goals in life (doing battle at the Figure Olympia stage) will come true. Congrats to this great champion on a job excellently done!

" "I am so grateful and so blessed to have placed 3rd in a class of over 40 women in the largest NPC Nationals show in history. The show was so much fun, very well run, and I am thankful to have had the honor to be a part of it. I am already anxious to get back to the gym and continue to make improvements for 2012!!"

Allison Moyer

Allison Moyer is also no stranger to the fitness lifestyle. She's been published in some of the most prestigious magazines in our sport, she eats lean year-round, doesn't drink, doesn't party, and she came to Miami Beach with a physique that was going to get rave reviews. She took an impressive 3rd place in a class full of talent. One can only wonder what 2012 will hold for this rising star in the Figure world! I predict Allison will also go pro in 2012; I make this prediction now, without a doubt in my mind!

2nd Place, ClassB
I'd also like to send a huge congratulatory salute to our good friend Kyrstyn Niespolo, who's also been a big help to the FigureBikini.com site. She brought a great package to the Bikini stage and shows very promising signs of a Pro in the waiting. Kyrstyn is a native of Detroit, works at L.A. Fitness, and is a Team Bombshell athlete. Trust me when I tell you, this girl WILL go pro! Again, big congrats to her and everyone that assisted her in her prep. I'll make sure to include questions about this big win whenever we do the much-anticipated interview.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Laura Boisacq, who won the Middleweight Division in Women's Bodybuilding. She is the wife of Shawn Boisacq (2011 NPC Emerald Cup - Heavyweight Champion), and from the looks of her, she's going to be a very competitive IFBB Pro Bodybuilder in her own right. I hope to be able to interview this wonderful athlete in the future. Congrats Laura!!!

Ashley Lemmons - Meals After 6pm

Its 6pm, you just got home from work; starving and tired. "I don't feel like cooking". "It would be so much easier to get take-out". I'm sure everyone has been down this road a time or two. Many people lead such hectic lifestyles and simply don't have a lot of time to cook healthy meals every night. When this subject arises, I always answer with one word…preparation.

I not only encourage this to others, but I practice it myself. Being prepared is a key ingredient to staying on track. Personally, I like to prepare most of my food on Sundays to insure that I always have lean proteins, veggies, etc. readily available when I'm in a rush or just too exhausted to cook at the end of the day.
Many of us also get that hunger pain midafternoon. To ease these pains, I would suggest baking a batch (on Sunday) of Jamie Eason's Lemon Protein Bars or Cinnamon Swirl Protein Bread, which are great for afternoon snacks. Pair a couple of these with a cup of green tea and your stomach will thank you.

Personally, I prefer to limit or avoid carbohydrates late in the day. Carbohydrates are primarily used for energy and most of us don't need a lot of energy late in the evening. With that being said, healthy dinner time options would be a lean protein; such as, Veggie Turkey Meatloaf (recipe found on www.ashleylemmons.com) paired with a green veggie like green beans or broccoli. Keep some frozen vegetables on hand to save time, as well.

Lack of time is the number one excuse for falling off track. In reality, you need to think of it like this, "someone who is busier than you made time on Sunday to prepare their food for the week". Don't make "being too busy" your excuse. If you want something; make a plan, prepare, and commit.

Ashley, who is now the new spokesmodel for a local supplement store, New Image Nutrition Depot, will share some great recipes (by Figure legend Jamie Eason) in her full feature, coming up at StrengthAddicts.com. Be sure to continue visiting FigureBikini.com for more on Ashley, great stores like New Image Nutrition Depot, and the awesome talent found at Alex Morgan Imaging.

The Ladies Speak!

Valerie Garcia presents beauty & muscle wrapped into one.

In this edition of FigureBikini.com, I ask some of the top figure and bikini competitors (and future competitors) which protein powder they prefer, including their favorite flavor and how they like to prepare their shakes. Below you'll see some of the most beautiful women to ever grace the stage!

VPX SRO in vanilla, I blend it with ice, water, 1 tbsp natural peanut butter, and a splash of unsweetened vanilla almond milk.

Valerie Garcia

My favorite protein powder right now is MRM Natural Whey in Chocolate. Since I'm dieting right now I prepare mine with just water and ice, but if I'm not I love making a Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake by adding 1 TBSP natural peanut butter, 1/3 banana, and 1 cup unsweetened SoDelicious Coconut Milk!

Allison Moyer

Gaspari Nutrition's Chocolate Peanut Butter, without a doubt. I like to make mine with almond milk and sometimes add a little ice. During off season, I like to use the vanilla and add in 1 heaping spoonful of pumpkin, a dash of pumpkin pie spice, stevia, ice, and blend.

Ashley Lemmons

I use Dymatize Elite XT chocolate. I blend with 1/2c frozen blueberries, 1/2c frozen chopped spinach, a couple pieces of ice, 1 cup vanilla unsweetened almond milk, and enough water to make it liquid enough.

Amber Shepard Hayes

I love a casein protein shake at night right before bed. My favorite flavor is chocolate peanut butter by Optimum Nutrition. I scoop it into a bowl, add one scoop of glutamine, and add just enough water to make it like a pudding dessert!

Carolina Granados

I love Champion Nutrition's Chocolate PB Whey! I mix one scoop with oats post workout...Mixes easily in a shaker with water and tastes amazing! Sometimes, when I'm feeling creative...I'll mix half a scoop of CN Chocolate PB with a half scoop of CN Cookies and Cream..absolutely DELICIOUS!

Nicole Gray

I LOVE Optimum Nutrition's HydroWhey Supercharged Strawberry! I blend it with just water and ice post-workout to really help with muscle recovery and growth!

Miriam Looney

I would say hands down the best protein powder is Whey protein from Optimum Nutrition. I love Caramel Toffee fudge! I takes care of my chocolate craving! It is best prepared with a little water, ice, cinnamon, and I throw in some yams and blend it all together for a great tasting, fast and easy post-workout meal. The yams make it a little creamy and it's almost like a milkshake!
